I joined Y4P because I am really passionate about working with refugee community! I want to be involved in health education as a medical student so that I can better serve communities in the future as a physician. I have also been really thankful for various mentors when I was pre-med and would like to support future medical students!

I joined Y4P because as a son of two immigrants, I’ve always had a desire to help those new to our country, specifically refugees, assimilate to life here. While an undergrad at Emory, I was able to build deep connections with those in the refugee community that I hope to further develop now as a medical student and future physician.

Nursing
My family were refugees from Cambodia after the mass genocide known as the Khmer rouge and growing up I have had first hand experience with Cambodian communities living in poverty without health education. I've been a cardiac nurse for the past year and I was able to see firsthand how many patients grew up without education regarding their health. I joined Y4P to give back and take time to hopefully spread awareness and keep the community healthy !

I joined Y4P because of the unique opportunity to serve refugee communities. I knew that being able to not only serve, but to also empower and educate them about their health would be a rewarding experience for me that I would remember for a lifetime. I’m also passionate about mentorship and I'm looking forward to working with other medical leaders to pursue one common goal that we all share: giving back to underserved communities!

I am Clayton State University alumni (Spring 2021) who is completing the pre-requisites required for gaining medical school acceptance. I plan to become an anesthesiologist medical doctor. I always volunteer in the community because I know it is much needed. I was featured as one of CSU’ s top 20 student leaders and was filmed in 2020 for being an example to other students in leadership and personal development. I am excited to continue volunteering my time to help younger people stay healthy in Y4P!

I am interesting in working along side interested Y4P leaders. With the help of Y4P, I look forward to spreading health education. As a current member of a nonprofit organization, we advocate the importance of receiving the COVID vaccine. I believe that my background will go hand-in-hand with being a member of the Y4P community.

I got involved with Y4P because I was looking for a way to serve my community medically. As an immigrant myself, I understand how it can be difficult to adjust to life in a new country especially when it comes to health. However, I chose to leave my country, a lot of the refugees didn't have a choice and if there was anything I could do to make that transition easier, I was happy to no matter how small. I also loved the idea that it was a group of premeds and medical students who had this passion for the community and for medicine.

I joined Y4P to learn more about the communities that surround us. There is a lot that is happening in our world today and we may not know of it. I saw joining as a chance to educate myself about the refugee community we have here in Clarkston which is something I didn't know of before. I have always enjoyed volunteering and this was an opportunity to be mentored by medical students and give my time to the communities that surround us.

Y4P has a powerful multi-tiered model for changing health outcomes by focusing on prevention over cure. This mission and the grass-root level work Y4P fellows engage with resonated with me and was why I joined. Individuals have a lot of power to change their health outcomes through lifestyle choices and I am humbled to be a part of this effort.

I joined Y4P because it was a good opportunity for me to be more immersed in medical volunteering. I especially wanted to volunteer in a region close to a large population of refugees that focuses on preventative care and educating a greatly underprivileged population.

I joined Y4P as I am aware of the difficulties refugees and immigrants can face regarding healthcare. Y4P has allowed me to have the opportunity to work closely with patients and to implement awareness in the Latinx community. Lastly, joining this community has allowed me to work closely with individuals who share the same mission: serving the underserved communities in Georgia!

I joined Y4P because I was intrigued by the goal of this organization. I wanted to be a part of Y4P to make a change. Y4P allows me to feel that I am not alone in this journey, everyone here is very supportive of each other. I also wanted to be a part of Y4P because I want to help the underserved populations. I enjoy having a conversation with the people in the community regarding their health prevention. Y4P is also very flexible and always gives us the opportunity to be involved.

Coming from a family of Eritrean refugees and immigrants, I know that language barriers ,high health illiteracy rates, and low socioeconomic statuses can impede individuals in obtaining adequate quality healthcare. Therefore, I joined you4prevent so that I had the opportunity to address health inequity and learn ways I can.
